About Jeffrey Clare
My realist acrylic painting draws upon influences that evolved from my early childhood, when my self-taught painter father familiarized me with drawing and painting fundamentals. My own work began after decades of deferring to practical priorities in other aspects of my creative life as a graphic designer and architectural photographer sole practitioner. I could no more have done those with other artists as I could make a painting as part of a team.
I eventually discovered the extravagant indulgence of rendering with plentiful detail the fleeting reality of a thought, or a glance out a window, or a roadside scene. In their own moment of life they each might have been forgotten, not fully grasped, or easily driven past unnoticed. What we see or think in any instant very, very possibly can be the foundation for actions we eventually take or values we come to hold. Preserving these ephemera makes them accountable. Detailed brushwork, of course, gives them respectability.
Over a period of ten years I painted with a painstakingly slow fury. My work was represented by galleries and was jurored into exhibitions by an assortment of notable practicing artists, major museum curators, and distinguished university faculty across the United States. Appreciable private and corporate purchases followed. At the time of those endeavors, when the internet had barely fledged, no personally accessible print and marketing entity even nearly as comprehensive as Fine Art America existed, so it is a real pleasure to join this organization.
